Grief Recovery Intensive

Most people will have significant loss at some point in life. It is an inevitable, but an incredibly painful experience. Grief can come from many things: divorce, loss of a loved one through illness or death, pet loss, or the loss of ones own health. People grieve in many ways. Many people have heard of the "stages" of grief. However, these stages are commonly misunderstood. There is not a one size fits all grief experience and it is not necessarily progressive as the model is often understood. It is common to have various feelings such as anger, rage, sadness, guilt or even numbness, sometimes simultaneously. Processing these emotions is necessary for healing. Intensives can offer an extended session which is usually a full day or two to gain skills and process your experience.

Processing loss can look like many things. It can be done through talk, art, reflection, movement, connection, or bilateral stimulation, to name a few modalities. Loss is not always a trauma, but when it is, the experience can be as profoundly traumatizing as other traumatic experiences. Thus, being mindful of daily functioning and regulation is important. When trauma is present, modalities like Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) can be helpful to recovery. You can learn more about EMDR here.

If you are ready to for grief recovery, begin by scheduling a diagnostic assessment where you and your provider will explore your history and psychological needs to ensure an intensive is the right approach for you at this time. Please let your provider know you are interested in an intensive when you meet for your assessment.
